A full strand of freshwater pearls, each one a small flattened round rather than a perfect sphere, set close so the strand reads as one continuous line. Buying a strand is a different thing from buying a single pearl: what you are paying for is the sorting, the work of going through a harvest until enough of them agree on size and color to make a necklace.
